Reflexology, Poole
Reflexology is a holistic complementary treatment that uses specific thumb, finger and hand techniques to manipulate and treat the hands and feet to work to bring the whole body back into balance (known as homeostasis). It is a non-invasive treatment.
Reflexology uses the feet and hands as a map of the body to identify issues with the client and treat accordingly.
Reflexology is not a foot massage although some massage techniques are the same, there are over 7000 nerve endings within the feet all worked over during the treatment.
When the energy flow is blocked by congestion: disorders and even disease can occur. Crystalline deposits can form on the corresponding reflex point on the foot. When the reflex point is treated, these crystals are broken down; the energy flow is enhanced, encouraging the systems to work again in unison.
Crystals are made up of uric acid and excess calcium two of the waste products that build up in the body when the metabolism is not working as it should. These deposits can be felt in the feet as grains of salt; these can be broken down by reflexology massage. The broken deposits are then carried by the lymph and blood to be eliminated by the body.
Reflexology can calm and soothe, give you a feeling of week-being; improve circulation; relax the mind and body; and remove waste deposits.
Many conditions can benefit including:
- Headaches and migraine
- Sinus problems/ hay fever
- Asthma
- Sleep disorders
- Muscular and joint pain
- Digestion disorders
- PMT and menstrual irregularities
- Menopause
- Stress related conditions, anxiety and depression

- Pain relief
Reflexology is not considered ‘medicine’ and practitioners do not diagnose or prescribe medications or herbs unless they hold additional qualifications in that area.
Reflexology relies on the body’s ability to heal itself when the stress is reduced and the body-mind connection is activated.
The average pair of feet will walk approx. 40,000 miles in a lifetime, usually without the M.O.T that we insist our cars have!
Just think of a Reflexology session as an M.O.T for the whole body through the feet. A regular maintenance treatment may help to keep the body on an even keel through it’s relaxing and calming effects and therefore prevent many of the everyday health niggles that we seem to put up with today.
